Lukas Koester
Researcher, EURAC
Lukas Koester is postdoc researcher and lab technician in the photovoltaic energy system group of the institute for renewable energy, where he leads the team of performance and reliability. He holds a Master of Science in physics (University of Düsseldorf, Germany, 2020) and a PhD in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology (Politecnico di Milano, working at Eurac Research, Italy, 2024). His work focusses on improving operation and maintenance of PV systems and ensuring that Solar PV remains a reliable, bankable and sustainable energy source. This includes work from developing advanced inspection techniques like daylight photoluminescence, automatization of image acquisition by developing robotic solutions, and leveraging on traditional and generative AI solutions to simplify data analysis and processes such as AI agents and decision support systems. Since March 2025 he is scientific coordinator of the Horizon Europe project SUPERNOVA and since August 2025 leading the team of performance and reliability in the photovoltaic systems group of Eurac Research.
